Here is a writeup on the HX400i HMC" The Mycenter®-HX400i is designed with a travel of 26” x 24” x 22” (X, Y, Z) plus a full 4th axis rotary table with 0-360 degrees / 0.001 degree increments. The Mycenter-HX400i utilizes table traverse design for the X- and Y-axis movement, a feature that reduces workpiece/spindle interference (by 2/3, according to Kitamura) common on machines with a traveling column design. The Mycenter-HX400i can execute simultaneous full travels throughout all four axes. The high speed and high torque spindle has speeds of 35-13,000 (35-15,000 available). The Mycenter-HX400i features a powerful 25 horsepower AC spindle motor that drives Kitamura’s 2-speed geared head and provides 13,000 rpm (15,000 rpm optional) maximum spindle speed and up 199 foot-pounds of torque for machining power. The Mycenter-HX400i features the dual contact spindle system that provides dual contact of the spindle taper and flange face. This thermally stabilized #40 taper spindle is supported by double angular contact bearings to handle high thrust loads, and roller bearings for accuracy. The standard spindle chiller maintains a constant temperature at the spindle jacket to insure a high level of precision. Twin high precision fine pitch ballscrews and twin servomotors deliver 1,969 ipm feedrates on all axes. Computerized lubrication is standard. The Mycenter-HX400i has special rubber/copper way wipers. The B-axes rapid feed is 15,000 degrees per minute (0.36 seconds per 90 degree rotate). An exclusive Kitamura five-year warranty is offered on box ways. The ballscrew cooling system circulates chilled oil through the X, Y and Z-axes ballscrew shafts. This standard feature holds the ballscrew temperature at a constant, thereby minimizing thermal displacement allowing for higher accuracy through continuous operation. “The Mycenter-HX400i features the fastest pallet changes of any machine in its class,” said a Kitamura spokesman. It takes only five seconds to exchange pallets. The operator has easy access to the pallet in the loading station, and can reach all sides of a tombstone being loaded and unloaded of workpieces by simply activating a push button. Guarding between the work envelope and pallet station allows the operator to perform high velocity machining while another tombstone is being safely unloaded and reloaded. The high speed ATC provides 1.3 second tool to tool/3.2 second chip-to-chip change time. Kitamura’s fixed pot ATCs delivers tool storage capability without sacrificing productivity. The tool magazine keeps the next tool in the stand-by pot for efficient tool change. Standard tool capacity is 50 tools with 100 optional. Kitamura’s fixed pot design toolchanger prevents tool crashes because tools are always returned to the position expected. Also, adjacent tool pots can be left empty to accommodate large diameter cutters. The IAC (intelligent advanced control) system 1 is standard. The IAC System 1 controls the effects of heat displacement in order to ensure continuous machining accuracy. A combination of regulating sensors and machine efficiency monitors provide data on variable compensation values to the machine offsets thus minimizing inaccuracies in spindle axial growth and head casting growth. Kitamura’s AI Nano control is standard, delivering ±0.00012” positioning accuracy per full stroke on all axes. This high response feedback system also increases contouring accuracy by 150 times, says Kitamura. “The Mycenter-HX400i features a state-of-the-art Kitamura-Fanuc 16iM control,” said a company spokesman. “Kitamura has packed this control with numerous high-performance features as standard that other manufacturers offer as optional. Kitamura understands that shop floor space is valuable so the control folds flatly into the machine when it isn’t being used.”
